Another week passes by

The Olympics are being shown over here on BBC1, a channel that seems to be suffering from an eternal blizzard (on our television anyway). It's interesting to view this event from a British perspective. Team GB are doing well. So well that they were able to do a 'Magnificent Seven' tribute to their cyclists (love that theme song). Eddy and I are enjoying a rare evening together...in front of the TV. He is sprawled over the three bean bags that make up our lounge suite, watching the presenter get excited about mushrooms (and why not) on 'Jimmy Doherty's Farming Heroes'. After that is 'Maestro,' a new series where several celebrities learn to conduct. We are drinking cheap Californian wine, wishing that we had bought cheap Autralian wine which would obviously have been the better choice if it too had been under 5 pounds. You might be able to guess at this point that we are trying to save money.

It is one month until we leave Bath, and after a brief but highly anticipated visit from Ali, fly to France, catch the train to the Pyranees and begin a walk over them, and across the north of Spain to Santiago de Compostela. Luckily, we've been doing some training.

One walk took us from Odd Down across to the lovely village of Limpley Stoke where the publican, perhaps sensing that he could make dreams come true, gave us a free pudding.

Sticky toffee.
Pudding.
Free.

Maybe we'd walked to heaven. He didn't look like your typical deity though. It looked like he'd been in a fight on the weekend, but, who knows? He made our day. After a much longer than expected walk, back along the canal to Bath, we then proceeded to get free sandwiches from Eddy's pasty shop.

Let's fast forward through the working week to today, our day off together. We went to a tree garden, Westonbirt Aboretum, which has over 3000 tree species. It was raining heavily all day but we decided to go based on the wisdom of a Canadian customer at Eddy's pasty shop: there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong choice of clothing. She'd forgotten her rain jacket and was completely soaked. As it turns out, it is hard to stay dry even in the right choice of clothing, but we were glad we went.

Nothing much else to report-
so good evening for now,
from the two of us at Odd Down
